Antibody to hepatitis B core antigen in the sera of 10 patients with acute viral hepatitis B, 20 patients with chronic hepatitis B, and 30 carriers of chronic hepatitis B surface antigen was assayed by the indirect immunofluorescence test. The activity of antibody to hepatitis B core antigen in the sera of these three groups of patients was identified as belonging to immunoglobulin classes G, M, A, and D. Antibody to hepatitis B core antigen was predominantly of IgG and IgM classes in all three groups of patients.
