Abstract

The current study was designed to provide an in-depth description of the experiences of 29 persons living with a seropositive status, specifically addressing the issues of how this affects intimate partner relationships and sexual self-image. Data were collected using a 25-question, open-ended interview instrument. Data analysis supports findings of limited previous research indicating gender-specific difficulties, but offers insight into the uniqueness of each person's response to relationships and sexuality following an HIV diagnosis. The current study supports the need for further research into these areas as a link between the epidemiology of HIV and control of this frightening disease.
