Overview

The AutoMicrobic system (Vitek Systems, Hazelwood, Mo.) for identification of yeasts was evaluated by testing 352 freshly isolated, germ tube-negative yeasts from clinical laboratories. Of these isolates, 84.9% were correctly identified. The system correctly identified 86.5% of the Candida isolates and 74.3% of the Cryptococcus isolates.
