Abstract

The reliable identification of patients at high risk of experiencing delays in discharge is an important objective of social workers in psychiatric settings. This study discovered a number of factors associated with excessive hospital stays, marking an initial step in the development of a list of high-risk indicators to be used to achieve more timely and appropriate transitions for psychiatric patients no longer in need of inpatient care.
