A series of 47 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome was systematically examined for the presence of Tinel's sign, and the results were compared to those in a group of patients with normal hands. In both groups Tinel's sign occurred, and there was no statistically significant difference in its frequency. Therefore it is concluded that Tinel's sign is of no diagnostic value.
