Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe the clinical applications of a total-body PET scanner and discuss future expectations. PET has been widely used in the fields of oncology, neurology, and cardiology. However, current PET scanners have limitations, including long scanning time, low signal-to-noise ratio, and high dose of ionizing radiation. Total-body PET with a long scan range provides solutions to these problems, markedly increasing the sensitivity of the system.
