Abstract
A 95-year-old memory-impaired man presented with acute hearing loss and confusion. A head CT showed a metallic foreign body (a button battery from a hearing aid) in the left external auditory canal. Damage caused by batteries, immediate treatment and incidence of batteries as foreign bodies in the elderly are discussed.
