Abstract

The present study has demonstrated that the Con A-activated cell-mediated autologous mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) is not associated with the generation of cytotoxic effector cells that kill autologous targets. Thus, the suppression of antibody production of PWM stimulated lymphocytes by autologous Con A-activated suppressor cells cannot be explained by detectable cytotoxicity. We have further demonstrated that the stimulator cell in this system is a nonadherent non-T cell.
